Adjusting Your Focus: I Miss Charles Schultz

Not sure if I am breaking a ga-jillion blogging rules by posting something someone sent me in an e-mail, but I'm taking a chance because I love the message.  Thanks Kathy!

We often look too far away from ourselves to find heroes.  Recently for class assignments, Tink has had to name two heroes,  and she has had the wisdom to pick her father and her sister.  Nah, My nose is not out of joint.  I know where she will go if she is hurt or scared; my job is secure, and moms usually are not truly appreciated until a few years of separation, think college years, have passed ;-)

The point is to find real heroes, people who make a real difference in our lives, we need to look around our lives.  There are so many people to choose from once you adjust your focus!

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip.

You don't have to actually answer the questions.
Just ponder on them.Just read the post straight through, and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4 Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series Winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies..
Awards tarnish..
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special!!
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with..

Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials..
the most money...or the most awards.
They simply are the ones who care the most
.

Thanks Mr. Schultz!

Now get out there and make a difference in someone's life!

I'll bet most of you already have!

  2. Awesome, thanks for sharing Lana. A great lesson for all of us young and old. Maybe I need to take a minute to thank all those wonderful people on that bottom list.

  3. So true!

Hope your apple tree survives. I was listening to NPR while out and about this afternoon. A lady orchard owner from southern Michigan estimates that she will lose 75% of her apple harvest this year because of frost.
Alas, she isn't the only one. This could be a bad year for fruit here in the midwest.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  4. Beautiful, Lana, and SO true... We don't remember those 'celebrities' for long---but we do remember those who have cared about us and made a difference in our lives... Thanks for sharing.
